HIPPOS ON THE LAWN

Botswana, known for the Kalahari desert and Okavango delta. I spent two months in the small town of Maun in the north of Botswana along the banks of the Okavango delta sharing a backyard with hippos and elephants. After nightfall nobody would be allowed on the grass for the fear of bumping into a hippo in the middle of their feed or even worse their mating.

Along with the rich wildlife that Botswana has to offer I spent time learning traditional oral storytelling, cooking, dance and the political structure with the local and central courts. Each aspect impacting and explaining the locals relationship with wildlife, and how they are able to continue living in harmony with one another
